THE IMPORTANCE OF ROOF CLEANING IN BRITTANY

Many of you will have observed the problems of the algi growth on walls and roofs in Brittany. The organisms display themselves in all sorts of guises and colours and whilst detracting from the asthetic appearance of external walls, the damage caused is minimal.

It is a different story however for slate roofs: Although slate is a resilient material the quality used for house construction in France does not compare with that of the Welsh slate more common in the UK. This means that when algi growth takes up residence on your roof the slates become weakened as minerals are extracted in the form of food. The result is that tiles become prone to cracking and failing in their capacity to protect your house from the elements.

The solutution is like most things cyclical, roof maintenance. Keeping your roof in good order will save you money in the long run as well as enhance the general appearance of your house, thereby helping to maintain it's value.

Roofs in Brittany should be cleaned every four to five years. The cost can be as little as 250 euros depending on the size and accessability
